ISOKO SOUTH LG LAUNCHES MEASLES-RUBELLA VACCINE CAMPAIGN.

In a bid to carry out the measles Rubella vaccine campaign, the Executive Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Hon. Comrade Warri Ovoke Friday, has called on all traditional rulers, President- Generals of the various communities, private school owners and other stakeholders to prioritize the measles-rubella vaccine advocacy within their respective domains.

The Council Chairman made the call during the flag-off ceremony of the measles-rubella advocacy campaign at Ekpre Otobo Hall within the Council Secretariat in Oleh, the Headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area.

Comrade Warri stressed the need for the campaign to be taken seriously whilr highlighting the severe implications of measles and other deadly diseases that have claimed lives of both adults and children in the past due to inadequate knowledge and insufficient vaccination efforts.

He further noted that this highly lethal disease has claimed the lives of numerous children, including nursing mothers and therefore, prompt intervention is crucial to mitigate its potential spread

Comrade Warri, therefore, urged everyone, particularly mothers, to disseminate the information regarding the measles-rubella vaccination, scheduled to commence in January 2026, to various gatherings, including markets, churches, meetings and other social events.

He encouraged the president generals and private school owners to enlighten their children on the importance of receiving the measles vaccine in good fate.

The Delta State focal person for Centre for Well-Being and Integrated Nutrition Solution (C-wins), Mrs. Naomi Ogbinaka, stated that the vaccine can prevent over two million deaths. She therefore urged children between nine months and 14 years old to take the vaccine when it becomes available in January. 2026 stating that it would be provided free of charge.

Mr. Ben Avre, the National Orientation Agency representative in Isoko South Local Government, stated that, on their part, NOA would do all it could take to disseminate the news of the measles Rubella vaccine advocacy to all the nooks and crannies of the local government area as prevention is better and cheaper than cure.

The highlight of the ceremony was the official launch of the measles-rubella vaccination campaign flagged off by the Wife of Isoko South Local Government Chairman, Mrs. Abigail Warri who is the measles-rubella vaccine Ambassador in Isoko South.According to her, ” the measles-rubella are serious diseases that affect mostly children but the good news is that they are preventable through vaccination.”

She therefore advocated for the implementation of sensitization programmes in various communities across the local government area.

Those that attended the ceremony were : Vice chairman of Isoko South, Hon. Ikrike Theresa, Leader of the legislature Arm, Hon. Olokor Friday, the Secretary to the LG, Hon. Aziakpono Osuofa, the Councillors, Supervisors, traditional rulers, clergymen, president generals, private school owners, nursing mothers, NCWS, WHO and a host of others.
