The Delta State Local Government Service Commission has trained 100 Works Superintendent, Motor Drivers and Mechanics in her employ to be well equipped in order to enhance the capacity of staff of Local Government Service.
The training that was organized by the Commission in collaboration with M.C Agbamu Agency, was mounted to fulfil the mandate of the Commission of continuous training and retraining of workers in the Local Government Service.
The seminar titled; ” Enhancing Professional Driving Skills and Road Safety Awareness With First Aid and Emergency Response (CPR Indusive)” was flagged off by the Commission Chairman, Hon Dcn Joseph Otirhue who was represented by the 2nd member of the Commission Princess Dame Minnie Igbrude.
Addressing the participants, the Commission Boss told the participants that they have a vital role to play in the society by protecting lives and properties. She stressed that, they have been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring safe and efficient mobility.
Speaking further, the Chairman said transportation is the lifeblood of any society, therefore Officers entrusted with this responsibility must be well trained to safeguard lives and properties thereby building a safer society.
While declaring the seminar opened, the Commission representative said professional driving is not just about moving a vehicle from one point to another rather, it encompasses discipline, patience, respect for traffic laws and continuous improvement of skills.
She emphasized that, a true professional driver combines technical competence with responsibility, courtesy and sound judgement.
She said the seminar was very critical and impactful as it would help participants to be more professional and tactful.
She lamented that a lot of road accidents that claimed thousands of lives yearly in the country were preventable because they were caused by poor driving habits, mechanical negligence or lack of immediate medical response at the scene of emergencies.
Grassroots Observers gathered that theĀ Commission Chairman charged the participants to pay apt attention to the lessons, practice the demonstrations and take the knowledge back to their workplaces as well as sharing it with their colleagues, stressing that every vehicle that they repair, every trip they embark on and every emergency been responded to was an opportunity to uphold the dignity of human life.
The 2-day seminar which was held at the conference hall of OKAY HOTELS LTD.OZORO DELTA STATE, had seasoned Resource persons and was well attended.
