The Delta State Local Government Service Commission, LGSC, has continuously fulfilled its mandate of training and retraining staff serving in the Unified Local Government Service.
While flagging off the seminar organized by the Commission in conjunction with Meritlink Consults for Agricultural Officers, Agric Superintendents and Livestock Officers,
the Chairman of the Commission, Hon.(Dcn) Joseph Otirhue represented by the 2nd member of the Commission Princess (Dame) Minnie Igbrude said that the Commission would not relent in building the capacity of her staff.
Speaking further, he said Nigeria is blessed with arable land, favourable climate for diverse agricultural practices adding that a vibrant population deeply rooted in agricultural practices is also available to harness these potentials.
Furthermore, he explains that Agriculture remains a critical sector in our national development which is offering vast opportunities for food production ,income generation and rural transformation.
The Commission Boss lamented that despite these blessings, the Agricultural sector especially at the local level, has not reached its full potentials due to inadequate investment, outdated methods, limited access to modern tools and underutilization of available resources.
He said these challenges had hindered the growth of agriculture reason the Commission has deemed it fit to train Agricultural Officers/Superintendents and Livestock officers to change the narrative by equipping them with current knowledge ,effective strategies and practical tools to improve food production and livestock management.
He also emphasized that, the Commission has trained these officers in order for them to promote agribusiness and rural entrepreneurship as well as strengthen value chains and market access which will in turn boost the economic base of Local government areas.
He stressed that as frontline officers in this field, the officers are strategically positioned to drive innovation, enhance productivity and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the communities.
The seminar which was themed “Maximizing Economic Potentials In the Local Government, Through Strategic Agricultural Development “was held at the Oputa Hall in Ozoro, Delta State, and was graced by seasoned professionals who brought in their wealth of expertise that benefited the participants in their roles.
