TRAINING: LGSC INVESTS IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

In an effort to build a strong, skilled and motivated workforce, the Delta State Local Government Service Commission has taken her training workshop to the Delta South Senatorial District of the State.

This similar training workshop had earlier been carried out in both Delta Central and Delta North Senatorial Districts of the State in order to ensure that, Community Development officers, Inspectors and Social Welfare Officers of the Unified Local Government Service of Delta State are well trained to execute their duties diligently and effectively.

The seminar tagged “Strengthening Community Development and Social Welfare Services for Sustainable Grassroots Growth”, was declared opened by the Chairman of the Commission, Hon.(Pst) Joseph Otirhue, at the Holy Catholic Church Edjeba, Warri, Delta State.
The two-day seminar which was organised by the Delta State Local Government Service Commission in collaboration with Fanimic Global Resources Ltd, was described as timely and significant for the improvement of service delivery at the Local Government level.

While addressing the participants drawn from the 8 Local Government Councils of the Delta South Senatorial district, The Commission Boss said, real community development begins at the Local government level as this tier of government is the closest to the citizenry adding that, the participants are the backbone of this system as they are the ones who bring Government policies to life and work directly with the community dwellers to ensure that programmes and services meet their needs.Speaking further, Otirhue stressed that ,the Commission believed that,continuous training and retraining of staff are key to effective performance adding that, the knowledge and experiences gained from this programme will enhance the professional capacity of the participants and also equip them with modern strategies for community engagement and social service delivery.

Furthermore, he said the Commission remains committed to improving the welfare and competence of her staff ,recognizing that,the success of grassroots development depends on the efficiency of those who closely work with the people. He also he pointed out that by investing in the training of the officers, the Commission was equally investing in the progress and stability of our local communities.While commending the Consultancy firm for collaborating with the Commission and contributing to the success of the programme, the Commission Chairman noted that such partnerships are crucial and vital in achieving set goal of sustainable grassroots growth.

He therefore enjoined all participants to pay attention to the Resource persons and make good use of the opportunity to learn and share ideas adding that knowledge gained from the training should reflect in improved service delivery ,greater innovation and stronger community participation when they return to their duty stations.
